Fatima Sana Shaikh, Aamir Khan, Amit Sadh And Others Who Went On Social Media Detox During Covid-19
When social media got its boom in the Indian market, people and celebrities all were excited. While the fans were attracted by the prospect of getting an up and close look at the lives of their idols, the stars found it an easier way to connect with their admirers one on one.

However, with the presence of trolls and the perk of virtual anonymity, it soon became a ground for fuelling hatred and insults, and not everyone could handle it. Here’s a look at few of the Bollywood celebrities who bowed out from this social media generation to focus on themselves.

Aamir Khan
Last month, kind of as his birthday gift, Aamir took a voluntary exit from the virtual world. He thanked his fans for all the love and support over the years but insisted that it was time for him to move on from social media and to “drop the pretence”. He jokingly added that it shouldn’t be as surprising considering how active he was on the medium anyway.

Warina Hussain
The Loveyatri actress found inspiration in Aamir’s words and action and she followed suit in dropping her social media pretence as well and bid adieu to the virtual world four days ago. However, unlike Aamir, she didn’t delete her account and shared that from now onwards, her team would be handling it.

Fatima Sana Shaikh
Following in Aamir’s footsteps, Fatima is the latest actor to join the social media detox bandwagon. However, her departure doesn’t seem to be permanent. On Monday, she shared that she is taking a break from social media, but didn’t specify any reason.

Amit Sadh
Disheartened by the current state of the country owing to the surge in Covid-19 cases, Amit decided to go offline earlier this month as he believed that “this is not the time to show my privileged life.” The actor assured his fans that he would be available on DMs for them in case they need help, but won’t be posting anything as he felt they don’t help anyone in this time of need.

Sonakshi Sinha
Last year marked a tough time for everyone and especially for the Hindi film industry. With the sudden passing away of Sushant Singh Rajput, social media, especially Twitter became a dumping ground of toxic abuse for the star kids. The Dabangg girl, Sonakshi couldn’t handle that toxicity around her and quit Twitter to “protect her sanity and stay away from negativity.”

Aayush Sharma
Salman Khan’s brother-in-law, Aayush, joined Sonakshi in quitting Twitter as he believed that 280 words were enough to spread hate and negativity. And to put in his words, “he didn’t sign up for this nasty herd mentality.”

Saqib Saleem
It wasn’t just the star kids that suffered from toxic abuse last year, especially at a time when people were locked in at their houses and facing a pandemic. And to get away from it, Saqib also quit Twitter, citing, “These last few days have forced me to realise that I don't need this kind of energy in my life, where I wake up to hatred, where kindness is lost. It has made me realise that I need to surround myself with people, things, content and vibes that reflect who I want to be and how I want to feel; energies are contagious!”

Shashank Khaitan
The Dulhania franchise director stood along with these actors and followed suit in quitting Twitter as he found the medium as a “breeding ground for hate and negativity.”
